You want to hide apps with a calculator. The Play Store will hand you HideU and Calculator Vault. The App Store will hand you Calculator# and Calculator Lock. They open like math homework. Type a PIN, tap equals, and a vault appears.
That is a photo locker in disguise. It is not a private chat. Play reviews complain about ads that block the vault. Reddit treats a second calculator as a tell. HideU’s own listing says do not uninstall the app or your files are gone.
If the real job is a chat that does not look like a chat, DailyNewsTalk is built for that. It looks like a news app until you long-press and enter a PIN. Messages arrive looking like news. Photos stay in the chat, not the camera roll. Download DailyNewsTalk.
This page is for your own phone. It does not teach you to open anyone else’s vault.
What Is a Hidden Chat App That Looks Like a Calculator?
A hidden chat app that looks like a calculator generally refers to a mobile application that uses a calculator-like appearance instead of a conventional messaging interface.
Some applications use a calculator design as an alternative interface for accessing private files. Others offer an app-hiding or cloning feature that makes selected applications less visible on the main screen.
Functionality depends on the app.
For example, a calculator vault might offer:
- Password-protected photo storage.
- Private video storage.
- Secure notes.
- File management.
- Additional application spaces.
- Authentication before accessing protected content.
However, don’t confuse these features with private messaging.
If your primary requirement is secure communication, check whether the app supports messaging, message protection, notification privacy, and strong account security.
Calculator vaults vs a news-look chat
| Tool | What it does | What it still shows |
|---|---|---|
| HideU | Android calculator vault. Photos, videos, notes, app lock. PIN then equals. | A second calculator. Ads. A public recovery path on the Play listing. |
| Calculator Vault | Android vault plus app hider and dual accounts. | The same second-calculator tell. Reviews mention lost albums. |
| Calculator# / Calculator Lock | iPhone photo and video vaults behind a calculator screen. | The app name. Reviews mention lost albums after updates. |
| Phone tools | iPhone hide-app. Samsung Secure Folder. Apple Hidden album. | Still on the same phone login. Still not a chat. |
| DailyNewsTalk | A full chat behind a news feed and a PIN. | A news app that is actually news until you unlock it. |

How calculator vaults actually work
The store pages agree on the trick. The icon looks like a calculator. The keypad does real math. You type a PIN you chose and tap equals. Then a hidden home opens. Inside, you get a gallery, a file list, sometimes notes, a private browser, and an app lock.
That is how you hide apps with a calculator on Android. The vault clones or locks the app. You open the clone only after the PIN. Calculator Vault’s Play page also sells dual accounts, so one WhatsApp can live inside the vault.
On iPhone, the same concept is mostly a photo locker. Calculator# says it can pull pictures out of Photos. Calculator Lock says the same, plus notes and a password list. Neither one is a messenger. You still need WhatsApp, iMessage, or Instagram for the chat. Those apps still sit on the phone unless you hide them with Apple’s own hide-app tool.
The costume is also the leak. A second calculator is not normal. YouTube explainers and Reddit threads treat it as the first thing people notice.
HideU on Android
HideU: Calculator Lock is the app that ranks for this search on mobile. The Play listing, updated 31 July 2026, says to enter your password and press equals. It hides photos and videos from the Gallery. An iIt has a built-in player, a private browser, app lock, and a paid cloud backup.
It also contains ads and in-app purchases. Recent reviews say the ads block the vault. One 2026 review said the ads never finish, so the hidden videos stay locked behind the ad. Another said a freeze left a black loading circle. That is a bad place for the only copy of a photo.
Google’s data-safety card on the listing says HideU may collect personal info and app activity, may share data, and that data is not encrypted. You can request deletion. Read that before you drop a private album in.
The listing warns you in bold.
- Do not uninstall HideU.
- Do not clear app data.
- Don’t delete the folders it makes unless you’ve already backed up to their cloud.
Reddit’s Android thread about a “dont_delete_me” folder is for people who lost the album after a clean or a reset. The files lived on the phone. They were not magic.
HideU’s FAQ also publishes a public recovery sequence on the same Play page. That is handy if you forget your own PIN. That is also why this is a weak secret for anyone who can search the store listing.
Calculator Vault, the app hider
Desktop Google often ranks Calculator Vault – App Hider first. The Play page, updated 14 September 2026, is closer to “hide apps with a calculator” than a photo box. It clones apps, runs a hidden launcher, and keeps an encrypted gallery. Flip the phone, and it jumps back to the calculator. You can pull it out of Recents.
That is useful if you want a second account that is not on the home screen. It is still a second calculator. The listing says it may collect location and personal info, and that you cannot delete that data. Reviews mention crashed vaults and empty albums. One older review said a reinstall wiped the documents.
Softonic mirrors also appear in this SERP. Download from Play or the App Store. Sideload APK pages are how people get a different binary than the one they meant to trust.
iPhone calculator vaults
Calculator# Hide Photos Videos is the older iPhone name in this SERP. NewSoftwares.net lists a working calculator, PIN or Face ID, a secret gallery, notes, and cloud backup. The free build has ads. Premium is listed at $4.99 for a year. Reviews praise the hide. They also describe albums that would not play, and a restore that only came back from an iPhone backup.
Calculator Lock – Secure Vault is the newer App Store result. Same PIN-then-equals open. Same “do not uninstall or the files are gone” warning. One App Store review said you can change the icon, but the app name still reads like a hide tool. That is the tell on a shared home screen.
Both iPhone vaults are photo lockers. They do not replace a chat app. If you hide WhatsApp inside a calculator, you still opened WhatsApp. The name can still land on the lock screen unless you change notifications.
What people on Reddit say
The top-ranked thread on mobile isn’t a how-to. It is a 2019 r/relationship_advice post. A woman saw a second calculator in a photos folder on her fiancé’s phone, with him sitting next to her. The comments are blunt. People do not download a spare calculator by accident. The replies walk through the PIN-as-equals trick because that is how these apps advertise themselves.
Later relationship threads repeat the pattern. Two calculators. Then a clock vault after the first one shrinks. We are not here to help anyone open that. The useful fact is the social one. The disguise is famous now. Famous disguises stop working.
Privacy subreddits asked for an open-source vault with no ads. The answers were thin. People suggested hiding a folder that starts with a dot, or paying for a locker with fewer ads. Nobody treated the costume as strong security. They treated it as a drawer.
YouTube’s “What the Tech?” clip that ranks on desktop makes the same point to a wider audience. Fake calculators hide photos. Anyone who has seen the video will look twice at yours.
What the phone already does
You may not need a store vault at all.
Apple’s own guide lets you lock or hide an App Store app. Touch and hold the icon. Tap Require Face ID, then Hide and Require Face ID. The app leaves the Home Screen and sits in a Hidden folder at the bottom of App Library. Built-in apps can’t be hidden this way. Notifications and search hide with the app.
For photos, Apple’s Hidden album moves pictures out of the main library. In current iOS, Face ID locks it. You can turn off Show Hidden Album in Settings. That still applies in iCloud if iCloud Photos is on. See our guide to how to hide photos on iPhone for Locked Folder and Samsung steps.
Samsung Secure Folder is a Knox box for apps and files. Samsung’s May 2026 help page says you can hide the icon from the Apps screen and open it from Settings or the Quick Panel. You need a Samsung account. Older phones may not have it.
Those tools beat a random calculator for files and app icons. Keepsafe is the named photo vault, not a calculator skin. They still leave a normal chat app in play. For the home-screen job, start with how to hide apps on your phone.
When DailyNewsTalk is the better fit
Use a calculator vault when you only need a drawer for photos or a clone of an app you already have. Use DailyNewsTalk when you want to hide the conversation itself.
DailyNewsTalk looks like a news reader, and the feed is real news until you long-press and type a PIN. Alerts look like news. Calls stay out of Recents. Either of you can clear the thread on both phones. You find each other with a user tag, so you do not hand over a number just to chat.
A news icon is a weaker tell than a second calculator. People expect a news app. They do not expect two calculators after a YouTube explainer.
Disclosure: we are associated with DailyNewsTalk. It is one option, based on how we test it. If that is what you want, download DailyNewsTalk.
If you wanted a game costume instead, that is a different page: secret messaging apps that look like games. For the full hide-chat cluster, start with secret messaging apps.
What Should You Check Before Choosing a Private Chat Application?
An application’s appearance should not be the only factor in your decision.
Consider these important points:
1. Message Security
Check whether the application supports end-to-end encryption.
Understand whether encryption is enabled by default, which conversations it covers, and whether backups are also protected.
2. Notification Privacy
Some messaging applications allow users to control how message previews appear in notifications.
Check whether the application provides appropriate notification privacy settings.
3. Data Collection
Read the privacy policy and app-store data-safety disclosures.
Understand what information the application collects, whether it shares it with third parties, and how long it retains it.
4. Account Security
Look for reliable authentication options and account recovery procedures.
A secure application should clearly explain how users can protect their accounts.
5. Backup and Recovery
Understand whether messages and files are stored locally or in the cloud.
Also check what happens when you change devices, reinstall the application, or forget your password.
6. Developer Transparency
Check the developer’s website, privacy policy, contact information, and update history.
Don’t assume an application is trustworthy just because it has an unusual or discreet appearance.
Are Calculator-Style Applications Completely Private?
No application can guarantee complete privacy simply because it looks like a calculator.
An application’s appearance and the security of its underlying technology are two different things.
For example:
- A calculator interface does not automatically encrypt stored files.
- A password does not necessarily provide end-to-end encryption.
- Cloud backups may introduce additional privacy considerations.
- Notifications may reveal information depending on device settings.
- An application may collect technical or usage information.
And for better protection, review the developer’s privacy policy, app-store disclosures, and technical security documentation.
For additional information, consult the Google Play data safety guidance and Apple’s App Privacy information.
Questions people ask
Can you hide apps with a calculator?
On Android, yes, with vaults like HideU and Calculator Vault. You lock or clone the app behind a PIN and the equals key. On iPhone, calculator apps are mostly photo vaults. Use Apple’s hide-app tool if you want the icon gone from the Home Screen.
Do calculator vaults actually calculate?
The store listings say the keypad does real math, so the costume holds. That is the point. The leak is not bad math. The leak is owning two calculators, plus ads, plus a name like Calculator Lock.
Are calculator vault applications available for iPhone?
Yes. Several calculator-style private storage applications are listed on Apple’s App Store. Features differ, and most shouldn’t be confused with dedicated messaging apps.
Will someone know I have a vault?
They can. Reddit’s ranking thread is people spotting the second calculator. App Store reviewers say the name still reads as a hide tool even after you change the icon. Uninstalling to hide it can delete the files.
Can a calculator vault replace a private messaging application?
Not necessarily. A photo vault protects stored files, whereas a messaging application is designed to exchange messages. Some application-cloning tools can support additional messaging accounts, but this is not the same as providing a dedicated secure messenger.
Is a calculator vault safe for private photos?
It is a drawer, not a bank. HideU’s Play card says data is not encrypted. Reviews on both stores mention lost albums. Back up first, on your own phone, before you trust one app with the only copy.
Is DailyNewsTalk a calculator app?
No. It is a news app with a PIN behind a long-press. It is a full chat, not a photo locker. Use it when the leak is the conversation, not a folder of pictures.
What this page cannot promise
A calculator vault hides files from Gallery. It does not hide the fact that you installed a second calculator. Ads, recovery pages, and lost folders are common. No vault should be used to open another person’s phone. If you wouldn’t want a photo in anyone’s camera roll, don’t send it.
